3 UK And Ireland Champions Mental Health with #TalkMoreThanFootball Campaign

In a bid to tackle mental health stigma, 3 UK and 3 Ireland launched the #TalkMoreThanFootball campaign in April. Teaming up with former Republic of Ireland and Chelsea footballer, Andy Townsend, the initiative encourages fans to open up beyond the pitch. During the campaign launch in Dublin, Townsend announced two more years of 3 Ireland’s partnership with Aware.

According to recent research on football fans by 3 in the UK, over two-thirds have struggled with their mental health, whilst one in three has never spoken to anyone about it. In Ireland, 56% of football fans have experienced a mental health disorder, whilst 26% have never spoken to their family or close friends about their experiences.

To help tackle the cause, Hollywood tough guy Vinnie Jones delivered a team talk in partnership with Chelsea FC, Aware in Ireland and Samaritans in the UK to further the push for open dialogue on mental health.

Electric Picnic is Ireland’s biggest music festival and it is powered by 3 Ireland! The headline sponsor kept partygoers in touch as they rocked it out to headliners like Billie Eilish, The Killers, Wet Leg and Paulo Nutini. In 2023, the festival experienced a 92% increase in data usage by Three customers, including a ginormous 378% increase in 5G traffic. Three carried 40% of all data downloaded at the festival and partygoers made over 1.5 million calls and uploaded countless videos to social media to bring the festival to the world via the 3 Ireland network!

3 Ireland keeping the Emerald Isle green

3 Ireland is undertaking a number of initiatives to promote sustainable mobile phone use. ThreeRecycle provides cash incentives to encourage mobile phone users to turn in their mobile phones, tablets and electronic wearables to save them from landfill. They are also replacing normal plastic SIM cards with eco-SIMs made from recycled polystyrene waste. 3 Ireland is excelling at making the circular economy real!

For the third year in a row, Drei Austria has been deemed the fastest 5G network in Austria. It celebrated with an ad campaign that treated German speakers to witty wordplay to highlight the win. 3 Ireland won its national contest for the fastest network for a fourth year in a row and the quickest 5G network for a third time.

3 Ireland has joined 60 other domestic and international firms to help the country reach its goal of becoming a net zero carbon state by 2050. The operator has committed to record its direct and indirect emissions, reduce direct emissions, work to minimise supply chain emissions, and to report on its progress in a formal annual report. 3 Ireland formed the Green Team, an internal, cross-department team, to work on these commitments as well as a variety of other initiatives that promote sustainability awareness and action across the company. The new Peak Vienna building has 1GB per second rates of transmission – even in stairwells and the basement – powered by 5G minicells.

3 Ireland and 3 UK helps children learn at home

3 UK is increasing the bandwidth of disadvantaged children to make homeschooling possible through a partnership with the government’s Get Help with Technology programme. Schools can request free additional data for children who don’t have Internet service at home, to ensure they can keep up with classes in the COVID-19 era. In Ireland, 3 distributed 10,000 free ‘All you can eat’ SIM cards in February with unlimited data to help schoolchildren stay connected until the end of the school year.
