Mission accomplished: after spinning from 2006 to 2026, Hong Kong’s first commercial-scale wind turbine has taken its final bow. Since its debut, Lamma Winds has contributed to the generation of 16 million units of electricity and the reduction of 13 million kilogrammes in carbon emissions – 560,000 trees’ worth of absorbed CO2 in a year! As its service came to an end, HK Electric bade farewell to this sky-high initiative, leaving behind valuable lessons for the city’s renewable energy journey.

Cenovus Energy hit 1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOE/d) for the month of July. The achievement followed a record-breaking second quarter, with net earnings of C$2.8 billion and upstream production up more than 200,000 BOE/d year-on-year, marking the best quarterly performance in its history.

Several growth projects are gaining momentum. The Christina Lake North expansion continues to progress, with a new steam generator expected to come online before year-end. The redevelopment well programme is expected to boost production in the second half. Meanwhile, West White Rose remains on track for first oil later in the third quarter.

Hutchison Ports has made history with its COSCO Shipping container ships, Gemini and Carnation. Gemini’s milestone was completing Hong Kong’s first simultaneous operations (SIMOPS) green methanol bunkering, taking on 200 tonnes in under five hours in a ship-to-ship transfer at Terminal 8. At Hutchison Ports Yantian, Carnation completed its inaugural dual-fuel container ship transfer, completing methanol fuelling in the Greater Bay Area. These landmark bunkering operations showcase the ports’ growing capabilities in alternative fuels, further enhancing its appeal to shipping lines operating next-generation dual-fuel vessels.

In Saudi Arabia, Hutchison Ports Jazan and the Royal Commission have signed a Cooperation Agreement with Nour Future Industry to build an SAR 500 million manufacturing facility in Jazan City for Primary and Downstream Industries (JCPDI) City, sourcing its equipment and raw materials from China and East Africa, respectively. The project adds fresh momentum to Jazan’s industrial growth, strengthening its position as a regional hub for trade and manufacturing and underlining the value of public–private partnerships in accelerating economic development.

Jakarta International Container Terminal and Hutchison Ports Thailand have both crossed a landmark 50 million TEU handled since opening. In Thailand, Hutchison Ports maintains control over five container terminals, continuing to serve its valued stakeholders. The milestones reflect the ports’ decades of commitment to shared collaboration, innovation and trust with customers, authorities and partners.

Breaking records is nothing new for Hutchison Ports Yantian, which once again broke a world record in September for its monthly throughput of over 1.46 million TEU. This breakthrough makes it the current highest total for a single terminal run by a port operator. Only one month ago, it broke the world record of 1.42 million TEU.

Hutchison Ports HIT welcomed the world’s largest container vessel to its berths. The ship is fitted with state-of-the-art technology and systems which allow it to function with reduced sulphur emissions and a lower impact on the environment. No one will look at the HMM GDANSK and think, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”

A new container terminal is in the works in Abu Qir as Hutchison Ports confirmed a US$730 million project with the Egyptian Navy that will connect a two-way highway to Alexandria and a national road network to Cairo. The first phase is expected to commence operations in 2022.
