HUTCH keeps Sri Lanka connected amid crisis
When Sri Lanka was devastated by Cyclone Ditwah last year, HUTCH Sri Lanka’s resilient network kept civilians and critical services better connected while other networks were more severely impacted. A well-planned network, supported by diversified backhaul with fibre and ‘over-the-air’ microwave links, ensured communications remained stable, supporting consumers and rescue operations. Engineers were airlifted by helicopter to restore outages within hours. Users received relief packages including free calls, SMS and data. HUTCH also donated Rs 60 million to the “Rebuild Sri Lanka Fund”, placing affected communities at the heart of its crisis response.

Tragedy strikes, CKHH and LKSF step up
A fire at a Hong Kong housing complex devastated hundreds of lives and homes. The CKHH family moved quickly to bring support to those in need. Hutch Sri Lanka: going to the people where they are
CK Hutchison is providing funding to support Hutch Sri Lanka’s giveaway of 200 e-bikes to distributors so that they can help to keep people connected despite the ongoing challenges affecting customer mobility. Of the local subscribers, 90% are using prepaid cards. But with fuel shortages afflicting the nation, people can’t get to commercial outlets that are distributors of prepaid cards and top-ups. Saving our oceans in Indonesia
Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison has joined forces with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (Indonesia) to promote environmental preservation of marine habitats in Bali. They are working together to advance four main objectives: the rehabilitation of marine habitats, improving plastic waste management in coastal areas, strengthening turtle conservation communities, and empowering communities in the surrounding environment to improve ocean ecology. The Corporate Social Responsibility Marine Conservation programme is the first step towards helping repair the damage humans have done to our oceans.

Sri Lanka is suffering a time of economic turbulence, driving runaway food inflation that is leaving many hungry. IOH programme empowers Indonesian women
Over 1,548 Indonesian women have contributed their ideas to reduce gender disparities in the fields of education, economy, health and the environment. The SheHacks programme at Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison conducts competitions and coaching programmes for women of all ages. Twelve webinar sessions have already been produced, a fourfold increase on the previous year. The programme is also reaching more people across Indonesia; over 23% of participants come from outside of Java Island.

Steps into soups with Drei
The Drei Hilft (“Three helps”) campaign commits to providing a hearty bowl of soup to those in need, for every 500 steps taken by social media followers. About 45,000 hot soups with bread have been donated by 3 Austria so far. This covers about 22 weeks of services, provided in the dead of winter to nourish the stomachs and souls of those who most need it. This was the best result since the campaign started delivering on their campaign motto: “Every year, make a difference”.

From fridge to SIM card, WINDTRE goes green
WINDTRE’s supplier is recycling the insides of old refrigerators into SIM cards called ‘Eco-SIMS’. The process guarantees a carbon-neutral certification for these cards made of 100% recycled material. The SIM card packaging is produced from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council)-certified recycled paper and is part of a wide range of eco-friendly measures that permeate WINDTRE operations.

Green light for UK tower assets deal
The UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has given CK Hutchison Group Telecom (CKHGT) permission to sell its UK tower assets to Cellnex for approximately €3.7 billion in cash and shares. Mr Canning Fok, CKHH Group Co-Managing Director says, “This deal unlocks value in our telecom assets to our shareholders, improves our operational efficiency and accelerates our 5G rollout, benefiting consumers across the UK. The UK towers are excellent assets and we now also have a terrific partner in the UK to help us take our network there to the next level.” The totality of the CKHGT-Cellnex agreement covers about €10 billion in tower assets in six countries and the sale of assets in five other countries (Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Italy and Sweden) has been completed.

Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison - the US$6 billion merger creates the second-biggest telecom operator in Indonesia
Indosat Ooredoo and PT Hutchison 3 Indonesia have agreed to merge their complementary Indonesian businesses with a total transaction value of US$6 billion. The merged company will be the archipelago nation’s second-biggest and world-class telecom and Internet giant with over US$3 billion in revenues. Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison will have the financial and customer scale to invest even more into its network and deliver more value to customers and shareholders in Indonesia.

3 Denmark has secured a wide swathe of radio bandwidth for the next 20 years after paying top dollar in a recent auction by the national regulator. CK Hutchison inks €10 billion tower asset deal with Cellnex
CK Hutchison has agreed to sell its interests in its European tower assets and businesses to Cellnex Telecom for €10 billion in six transactions. These transactions will unlock the underlying value of its telecommunications division and realise a number of strategic and financial benefits for the Group, including acceleration in rolling out 5G across all of CK Hutchison Group Telecom’s networks as well as forming long-term ties with Cellnex that will serve the Group’s future passive infrastructure needs. Austria, Denmark and Ireland completed their transactions in December 2020 with the remaining countries looking to complete this year.
